Head & Skull Photographs

Fr Hogan’s Skull and stuffed head photos taken at the National Museum
used in, or for research for his book THE IRISH WOLFDOG 1897
The first three photos have been copied from his book
as the original photos are not in the folder.

 


 It  appears that the 1833 stuffed head was re-photographed
 for the 1939 & 1972 editions.
No data on the back of the rear view photo.

The text appears to be the same as that printed in Rev Hogan's 1897 edition and
that in the 1939 & 1972 reprints. No additional notes are included.  For this reason
I have only copied the cover and first page of this fragile document.

Phyllis Gardner writes in her Preface to the 1939 Edition, that due to a fire in the publisher's office, a few advanced copies of this publication were the only survivors.   The paper in these books is fragile. The only notation is Dr May's signature on the title page.

Copies of the 1972 reprint, which include many interesting notes and explanations by Phyllis Gardner, are available from The Irish Wolfhound Club of Ireland

In 1939  Capt Graham’s THE IRISH Wolfhound 1885  & Rev E Hogan’ THE IRISH WOLFDOG were reprinted as one book, entitled THE IRISH  WOLFDOG,  by  The Irish Wolfhound Club of Ireland.  In 1972 THE IRISH  WOLFDOG , Hogan & Graham, was reprinted again by  The Irish Wolfhound Club of America and  The Irish Wolfhound Club of Ireland
 The original frontispiece and title page are reproduced in both reprints.

The 1972 reprint is slimmer than  the 1939 edition.   The title is only on the spine.
The reprints include many interesting notes and explanations by Phyllis Gardner.
